Anyone know what those pre-made rose center cones are made of? They dont' appear to be styrofoam. I bought a pack the other day and really liked them, but at $7.00 for 6 plus shipping, there more than I want to pay. The ones I got had one of the those silica dessicant packs in the package to absorb moisture, so I am assuming they aren't styrofoam....plus the surface was very smooth.
Any ideas? I love to reduce the overall weight of my large roses.
I've never used them...but if you need to make roses and don't have time for centers to dry, you can use lollipops. Blow pops work for the 110 mm quick rose cutter, and dum dums work well for smaller ones. Lollipop sticks are safe to poke in a cake too

I haven't tried the product mentioned above because of the cost but I did make my own center cones and they work well. I make a hook with a fairly stiff floral wire. I pull some cotton balls apart and wrap the material around the hook to the size I need. I then cover the cotton with floral tape, wrapping it up in a cone like shape. I've made roses with these cones with no trouble.
They're not feather light but still not as heavy as the ones with a gumpaste cone center. HTH
I've heard of people using the Crayola Model Magic for their rose bases. It's non-toxic and VERY light. I've only used it for personal use and practice though. Even though not many people really eat the gumpaste flwoers, I'd hate to see someone eating model magic. LOL
Cake pops... LOL safe, moldable, edible, yummy...
Marshmallows... light, cutable, safe, yummy... and dip the stix in chocolate and they'll stay put.
