I have been a coordinator for over 18 years and have NEVER EVER had that happen. We are still sitting here with our mouths open in shock. Seriously weirdo thing to do! Bet the guests were in bewilderment too but were just too polite to ask where their cake was! LOL! Wow..I mean..Wow!
maybe you did the right thing not putting the groom too close to herl.
Or maybe he stepped away from the bride when he heard the cake wouldn't be served at the wedding.
Wow! What an awsome cake!!! No wonder they didn't cut it. It was too BEAUTIFUL
You definitely have a talent and you would never know this was your first cake. You have a great future. ![]()
I'm fat. I love cake. I would have been pissed.
That cake is so cute, by the way!

HAHAHAHAH! That's hilarious..
Yes, I understand that it's the bride's day. Different families have different dynamics, of course, but I know I would ask either my brother or SIL why the cake wasn't served. On the other hand, maybe that's why I eat crow at times..... ![]()
But the topper is that you asked for a piece and weren't given one. That, to me, is more unbelieveable than not serving it at the reception. Are you serious? Out of a 3 tier cake, you couldn't have a piece???? When you donated this cake??????????????????????????//
Yes, it's the bride's day. But somewhere along the way (reality TV), brides get the impression that they can behave like brats, and ignore good manners and social norms. And they extend that "it's my day" bit into "it's my wedding week".
Aside from the half-dozen people who are closest to them, nobody really cares.
I want wedding cake at weddings (and it better not be soaked in rum); and I want birthday cake (preferably chocolate) at birthday parties!
You are family, how could they think that they would not get a piece of one of your cakes in the future, or that you wouldn't make one for them for a special occasion if asked.
I'm having fun with potential responses to future requests for cake!!
"Gosh, since you were too embarassed to serve my cake at your wedding, I can't see how I can humiliate you at your party by making a cake for your birthday. Perhaps you should get one of those cardboard cakes at the grocery instead."
"Sorry, I don't go to all of that work just to make a display cake that you won't serve to your guests ..... especially when I'm expected to make it for free. You'll need to actually PAY for a cake from somewhere else so you won't be ashamed to serve it."![]()

I know! I don't understand it either! I can't imagine why two people would even want three tiers worth of cake to themselves...no matter how much they love it they're going to get sick of eating it before it's gone. It just baffles me!

I agree with this. I know this is a family site. But this deserves a giant WTF!
Seriously, you're pulling our leg with this, aren't you. C'mon, fess up.
I can eat my weight in sweets, but I would tire of three tiers of even my very favorite cake.

OR, I could agree to make it and just use Styrofoam dummies without telling her (then snigger behind my hand as I imagine her attempting to cut it up for the freezer the next day... ) ![]()

Haha...'fraid not!
I am freaking out with your post what kind of B#@!% does that!? You worked hard and she didn't have the decency to serve your cake unreal! I would have been furious! I am just reading it and it makes me angry I agree I would NEVER make her another cake!! BTW your cake was beautiful!
Of all the bride stories on CC, this is by far the weirdest I've ever read. I just showed the post to my daughter, who in the elegant language of her generation said "That's the suckiest thing I've ever heard!" And we both think the cake was perfect!
WOW ... I am preparing a wedding cake for this weekend and I couldn't imagine it not being eaten ... especially when you put your hard work and effort into making it and hopefully making it taste extra yummy! The cake is absolutely beautiful and I love it!! I would love to try a piece ... hehe. I would definitely think twice about any "cake gifts" for them in the future! ![]()

That is a great idea! Love it!
I have gone to a few weddings that I didn't really want to, only because I knew there would be wedding cake at the end of the event! If there were a cake there to tease me and then I couldn't have any - well, I think I'd just take my gift back and go home!! ![]()
My mom asked me for a big box of cupcakes for her birthday last year. So I made 4 dozen cupcakes with fondant flowers on top, boxed them up and took them over there. The whole family was gathered for her birthday, even my sister who lives more than an hour away. Mom didn't let anyone eat a cupcake...she took them all to work the next day, then called me to complain that there weren't enough for all of her coworkers.
I know that's not as major as what happened with your lovely wedding cake, but I couldn't believe my mom did that.

That's terrible! Her co-workers got to eat them but she wouldn't share with her own daughter!? Not funny for you (or your sister!) but I can't help but laugh at your Mom!
Oh dear.
People never fail to amaze me.
Food and death bring out the crazy in people.
