Someone who is wanting an event cake for next to nothing should take take 150 people to a fine-dining restaurant and have cake for dessert.
See if the restaurant would charge $2.00 per slice. ( I think I saw this here on another post and think it's a great response to cheap people).
From the other side of the fence: We ordered a piece of apple cake with a scoop of vanilla store-bought ice cream in a local restaurant, and it cost $12. I almost choked when the bill came. It was a dessert cake--nothing fancy to look at, no strudel layers to deal with. We didn't go back to that restaurant for a very long time, and NEVER ordered dessert there again.
I thought that $12 was excessive and not justifiable.
