Making a 2 tier cake.If i decided to cover my cake in BC, can i still add let's say some stripes or circles of fondant to it?? If so , how?

Thank You for such a quick response.How does the whole size thing work. I was going to make the base 8inch and the top tier 6inch. Is that correct? Or maybe i should do 9inch- 6inch
