Help With An Open Treasure Chest
Decorating By mandirombold Updated 4 Aug 2010 , 1:36pm by KsCakes09
I need to make a princess and pirate treasure chest cake and I wanted the chest to be a few inches open so that it can be filled with tresure. what is the best way to prop it open??
When I made mine I made a "wedge" of cake that I placed toward the back of the bottom of the chest part of the cake. I iced and covered it after that so the wedge was covered in the same piece of fondant as the chest. I then carved and covered the top seperately. I put a couple of skewers in the wedge so the lid cake wouldnt sink. I placed the lid on and skewered it where I was going to put the "straps" It left the lid slightly open and then I stuffed it with loot. HTH
Have a great day
I made one where I cut a 13x9 cake in half & stacked (for bottom of treasure chest) & made the lid out of molded RKT & put on a cake board.. to prop it up I just cut dowels & left them a little longer so it would look open & hid the dowels with all the treasure.. you can check it out in my photos.
