Do you prefer wooden dowels or the plastic dowel straws?

I've got a 3 tiered 6/8/12 cake to do in September and I'm just working out costs as the recipient is paying costs and the labour is gift. I'm trying to figure out if I'm okay with the plastic or I should go with the wood? I'm planning to use BC with fondant accents, but if that doesn't go well, I'll be using all fondant (and have included that in my cost). I'm planning on center doweling and deliverying it assembled. It's about a 10-15 minute drive. Do you think center dowel will be fine or I should look into the SPS system (which I've never used).

Thanks,
Pam

I've heard the wooden dowels are not that good because they just push the cake underneath them down, causing an unstable base, something hollow is better. They also have these hollow THICK cardboard like straws that I've seen used on youtube...the lady is on here and now I can't remember her name...the video is called "how to stack a cake my way", I believe. Great tutorial
