How To Avoid Sticky Sweaty Cakes?

Is there a way to avoid sweaty sticky from happening to fondont covered cakes? What to you do in the summertime when its so humid? My cake is so shiny and sticky...what can I do?

Are you using shortening to roll it out? If so, switch to corn starch (tiny bits or the fondant will start cracking). The next thing would be humidity. Turn your A/C down and if you can, buy a dehumidifier. Sugar attracts moisture and fondant is almost all sugar.

I would agree with the dehumidifier. Turning the AC on will work only if your AC condenses air. My AC was really old and spewed out wet air, which exacerbated the problem.

I also found that with very wet fondant, adding tylose to it helps keep it dry longer.

Are you refrigerating your cakes? I read sometimes that happens if you refrigerate.
