I used to use Pillsbury all the time, but with the WASC recipe the top always came out gooey. Really a mess. I use DH and BC interchangably. About 1/2 my recipes are scratch, so I guess I haven't baked enough to have a true allegiance to either box mix. I just know I don't use Pillsbury anymore.

I definitely prefer Betty Crocker. Maybe its because I'm in General Mills Land (Minnesota) and that brand is better stocked in this area. But I've tried both of DH and Pillsbury and just don't do as well with them.... especially getting cakes to rise as much and as consistently.

The price varies all over here - anywhere from $1 on sale to $2.09 - what I paid at my regular store last week because I was in a hurry and didn't want to go to one of the big discount stores. That was the most I've ever paid there :>(

Count me in for DH's all the way too! $2.99 a box here now, 3.29 in one super, thumbsdown.gif but I'll still buy it over the others. For me, DH works everytime, it yields more batter, & to me, it tastes better. thumbs_up.gif

I love it and it always does great with the WASC recipe for me. Then again maybe it is because I am a novice baker and don't know any better, lol.

Everyone else loves my cakes too.

Also it's like .88 at wal-mart compared to like 1.98. I am always baking for free so this is my go to.

What cake mix is $1.98? icon_eek.gif I pay $1.07 for DH, BC is .98 and PB is .88 per box. I have never paid more that $1.07 for a box mix. Just curious.

Wow - 2 1/2 hrs to the west and DH is now $1.29 at Walmart!

CIAO

Try Wal-Mart...it still may be more expensive than what I have to pay but it will probably be cheaper there than at the grocery store. It's about $1.49 at my grocery store. If you like PB then stick with it. Whatever works for you is what's best for you. Just because I like DH doesn't mean that someone else will thumbs_up.gif DH does produce more batter and I like it's performance as well. If you've only tried PB it wouldn't hurt to try DH and BC that way you can decide for yourself which one works best for YOU thumbs_up.gif

Karen...that sucks..that you pay that much more than I do. Went to Wal-Mart earlier and they are now $1.12 a box. icon_eek.gif Around Easter they had DH on sale for .98 and I bought 3 cases. I've already had to start buying it again so I'm hoping for another sale very soon.

Joyfull...don't know where you're located but $2.99-$3.29 is so expensive
icon_eek.gif Wow...can't imagine paying that much for cake mix. So thankful that our prices are so low.

I used to use Pillsbury only because I loved the price....but I hated that I couldn't ge the height on the cake I wanted. Then I found out Duncan Hines yields more batter..so I just recently changed to Duncan Hines ...AND changed to the Original WASC not using oil. Have tall cakes now that are NOT sticky. YeeeeHaaaaawww!!!

I'm not sold on any one particular brand. I usually buy whatever is on sale at the time. I'm very much a novice and have been using all different brands to see what people like best.

I can tell you that my family has told me that their favorite cakes are the ones made with PB! They like "wedding cake" flavor (AKA almond here in LA), and I have found that the PB does seem to come out lighter/fluffier.

From what I've read, I believe that BC and PB have pudding in the mix, but DH does not, so I'm always leary about using BC and PB with a recipe that adds more pudding.
