This cake was done for my sons's 6th birthday. Had an embarrasing amount of trouble with the styrofoam cup and could never give this to a paying customer, but my kids ate it up woth no complaints! I was afraid to do cooked sugar so I simply used chocolate fondant wrapped around a wooden dowel potruding from the cake, glued on the empty soda can then painted the chocolate fondant with corn syrup to keep it shiny. The sudsy/foam were balls fo fondant also painted with corn syrup. Thanks for the inspiration to the other cc'ers who tried similar cakes. next time I'll make a better cup (smile)
I bet your kids did love it! I know my grandsons would! You did a great job. It's a really cute cake.
thanks - far from the best cake I've done in terms of precision, but my son was too busy licking off the "soda" to care how terrible the "cup" looked!
i think your cake is great, i love that you found something other then poured sugar to use, i dont fancy working with that either. and this sounds so much easier and still has a great look.
