When I think of tea cakes, those are not the colors that come to mind. I think that's your biggest challenge. Make the 12x18 cake into a table setting; make a teapot and cups on top.

I'm having fun looking at tea cakes for you. This a theme that I never explored; so I'm adding to my fav. for future inspiration.

What decorating theme are you going for; elegant and traditional (older bride) or hip and fun (younger bride, but they too may want elegant and traditional)? Can you post a picture of the eggplant color? I then can have a better idea to help with a design. I do think that white or ivory should be included, if that's possible.

a brown striped hatbox with eggplant (aubergine sounds so much better though) and shades of eggplant flowers spilling out (wanna get funny, have an eggplant coming out too!)

Crap! I know. I know. My idea doesn't work with a sheet.

Okay. How about an ivory/muted base with dark brown scrolly framework with the florals mentioned above?

How about a cream/off-white background with brushed embroidery flowers in the brown and eggplant?

If you need a break from the darker colors - a nice celadon green could accent. I did a bridal shower and those were her colors. I just did the eggplant and green in the fondant ribbon over an ivory buttercream.

Polka dots in the brown and eggplant colors with ivory or white flowers on top of some or all. I think of flowers for bridal parties - showers or luncheons or teas whatever you call them.

I want to thank everyone for suggestions. But I have another question now How to make the eggplant color. I am thinking using the purple with a touch of black.

gee whiz...that would depend on how ripe your eggplant is...I see tinges of pink in it. Do you have a swatch/example of the color you can share with us?
