I know this has been asked before but have searched and trawled through forums till my eyes hurt (it is nearly 10 at night here, I have been to work all day and just finishing off a cake)
How do I make the fondant shiny? I know I can steam it but when I tried that before my iron spat bits of water out lol, any other options?

If you have the time, you could buy a very cheap travel steamer specifically for this which would work better than an iron because there won't be so much heat directed at the cake.

Another way (depending on your decorations, colors etc and the chances of bleeding) might be to just very carefully and very lightly "paint" water onto the cake. You'd have to be very careful though if you choose this route because too much water will make a mess and make things run etc.

Hopefully someone else will chip in with better options for you.
