I've seen many cake ball recipes calling for a can of icing but has anyone used homemade buttercream mixed with the cake to make them...just wondering how that would do.
You can use any icing it doesn't have to be canned. I only add maybe a tablespoon or so of icing to my cakeballs. I can't imagine adding a whole can . The icing is used as a binder. I have made them w/o using any binder and they held together fine.
agreed, you only need a little icing ... add only a bit at a time.
