How Much Icing For Cupcakes? As Soon As Possible
Baking By SecretAgentCakeBaker Updated 3 May 2010 , 1:51pm by SecretAgentCakeBaker
I have 60 regular sized cupcakes and about 50 mini cupcakes.
I'm using Indydebi's icing recipe. Does anybody know about how many batches of icing I would need to frost that amount of cupcakes in swirls?
Thanks so much!
It depends on how close to the edge of the cupcake you start your swirls. If you leave a little cake showing around the edges, then you can probably manage with three batches.
Well, try it with two and see if it's enough!
I've noticed that if I make my swirls just a little smaller than I would naturally, I can frost 32 cupcakes (how many my recipe makes) with one batch, but if I put the swirls out to the edges of the cupcakes, I need twice as much icing.
I just made that batch and two would work for that amount.
Really it all depends on how much frosting you are going to put on. And the frosting is so quick and easy that if you don't have enough in just five minutes or so you will. It's not like SMBC or something that takes longer to make. Just make sure you have enough ingredients in your house and you are good to go.
I just made 150 regular sized cupcakes and it used 3 batches of indydebi's buttercream. I used a scoop to put the frosting on so it was probably a little less than a swirl. So I guess I probably got about 40-50 cupcakes per recipe. You will probably get alittle less cause the swirls take more icing than what I did. I think two batches would work for you!
Thanks, everyone, for the replies!
I should have mentioned that I was taking the frosting and cupcakes separately and icing them at a mother-daughter tea party.
I brought 3 batches and made the swirls really short because I was worried about not having enough, but now have a full batch left over! Oh well, everyone thought they were great and the girls had a lot of fun adding the decorations (fondant roses & leaves that they made last week and Wilton sugar pearls.)
Thank you again for your help!
