I am making a cake for a UNC grad in a few weeks.
She asked if I could somehow incorporate the Old Well into the cake.
I have seen toppers that are the Old Well, but not the cake itself.
Do you think I could make one out of fondant?
Any other ideas?

Any ideas would be appreciated. She is graduating from nursing school.

Thanks!

so....
using the soccer ball pan for the top dome -- that would be about 9" around (and use one full recipe)

then make the two step stone base as two large single 2" layers a 9" for the top step (what the columns sit on) to match the soccer ball pan cake and a 14" or even 16" for the bottom step.

the the wilton plastic grecian columns to hold it the soccer ball cake up above.

----
(not drawn in) for more realism add a 2" layer 8" diameter under the soccerball cake so you can detail it out with all that molding work on the underside of the dome
----

of course if you need more -- can either:

1) drop a sheet cake under and make it look like grass and stone surround --
or
2) scale up sizes on everything - but then this would mean carving the dome or finding a bigger bowl to bake it in.

I had one in my favorites, but I think it is gone now. icon_sad.gif It was probably much like Doug said. I think they used Wilton pillars. It was cute!

Edited to say:

I found I'd saved it on my computer. We'll see if I can upload!

Thank you both so much!!!

bethie, did you make yours yet? How did it come out? I am working on mine today and tomorrow. It has not been going as well as I'd hoped!
I am going way over budget on this cake.
