Had a request for a cake that tastes like strawberry shortcake. So I was going to do a vanilla cake with fresh strawberries and whipped topping filling covered with buttercream. I read a few things on CC about whipped topping seperating and running into the cake? Has anyone had this happen? What if anything can I use to mimick strawberry shortcake if I can't use whipped topping?

For a strawbery shortcake cake, I use my vanilla butter cake filled with fresh strawberries and then ice in stabilized whipped cream. BC has no place on a cake like this unless it's to pipe some decos on the top.

What is stabilized whipped cream? Can I add fondant accents on whipped cream?
