I had some left over cupcakes and buttercream icing that I'd made from scratch the other day, so decided to make my first cake balls. My husband loved them, but I thought they were just so so. They just left something to be desired. I don't think I used too much icing - I used about 10 cupcakes and 1/2 - 3/4 cup of buttercream icing. Also, after they'd sat out for a while the cake part started to seep out the bottom of the cake balls (the part that was touching the plastic I set it on). Does anyone know why this was?

Also, I'd like to know if people prefer cake balls made from scratch or store bought frosting and cake. Do they taste better? Do they hold up better?

There was a huge thread on cake balls, but I don't know where it is now. Does anyone have the link?

Cake balls are gross, but scratch is always better, according to me anyway!
