What camera do you use? Did you take photography classes? You also have a talent for taking pictures.


When I take pictures either cupcakes/cakes my photos are too dark or the details on the cake blurry.

I am in absolute AWE of your chick in an egg cake. WOW!

Also, the cake in your most recent post (titled "The Best Chocolate Cake") looks MUCH, MUCH better cut than the wedding cake that was served at the reception I helped cater yesterday, which was also chocolate w/ buttercream between each layer.

I use a Canon Digital Rebel with a 50 mm lens. I did take a class once (it was awesome... but it was not for food, it was for portraits. I have been learning a lot from photosharing sites like flickr and photograzing.com and foodgawker.com. After getting rejected enough times I have just started trying to emulate what I see in successful photos!

I love your cakes! And your photos! Though one thing, someone else mentioned, was some of the pics it was hard to see the cake because the background was so white and the cake was so white, but other than that it's superb!

But I will tell you my secret.. I use a 12 inch taping mud knife. When I say taping mud knife, I mean one that builders use when they are mudding and taping drywall.

Hope you don't mind, but going to use a few of your ideas for some mother's day cakes next month. Want something different that they haven't seen before.

I dont consider it stealing when I see someone do something that may have been inspired by me... I LOVE that!! Each of us are so talented and unique, we put our own special spin on things and end up putting more love and joy out into the world. (man that sounds CORNY!)

But really... if you ever see something from my blog that you want to replicate or make yours... DO IT!! I encourage it!
