I want to make a Spongebob cake standing up with ( I guess) a wood base. But I am concerned about the wood dust that remains even if I wipe it down. What should I do?

I have done this before and I just cover the wooden dowel in foil paper and the board on top and on the bottom of the dowels as well. Then I start putting the cake on.
