I have a problem keeping icing in my house! Even if I label it with a giant sign, it seems my husband has "selective reading skills" because he eats it and naturally, I cannot use it once he has dipped (and probably double dipped) a spoon in it. Your problem probably isn't the same as mine, but there are occasions when I need more icing after the fact, and need it the same exact color.

But I usually color my icing and make the proper amounts ahead of time so there were a few times when I could NOT get the color exactly the same if I had to make a new batch.

I use a medicine syringe now. Then I write down how much I used. I used a serrated knife to make my own marks in it and just write it down as line one or line three, but it really works.

Just be mindful, the icing won't be the same color right away so if you need an exact icing color in five minutes, this trick won't work.
