I have been asked to make a sombrero cake for special needs friend. He is very particular and loves sombreros. I would like for the base tier to be 14" with smaller cakes in the center for the crown. Now, at the edge of the 14" cake what should I do to give it that upturned look? Any help would be appreciated!!!

Iv not done it before and im still learning but i would try covering it in fondant, leaving some extra overhang cutting it to a circle and then take a lots of paper towels and roll them together into a sausage shape. place the sausage shape under and all the way around the extra fondant. that should support it and when its dry remove the sausage and it should have set. does that make sense? it might not work so i would practice it first.
