I want to make a cake look like a giant milk chocolate ( or look covered in chocolate, anyway). Would chocolate fondant be the best?

Could you use chocolate ganache? You just pour it over the cake - and it's chocolate - can't get much more real than that.

A couple threads about it:

Maybe use whipped chocolate ganache, it is similar in texture to buttercreme, pile it on, a good quarter inch of it (yummm!), then use a ruler to draw (deep) lines to form the chocolate blocks... Fondant would work, but when it comes to chocolate -- one can't beat the real thing!

I vote for chocolate fondant, I've seen several cakes done this way on Flickr and they look awesome icon_biggrin.gif
