I've done 4lbs of sugar many of times in the 4.5 quart. And can do 6lbs of sugar in the 6 quart. I know they aren't the 5q, but I'm thinking you could do 4-5lbs of sugar and shouldn't have a problem.

And I worded it using the pounds of sugar because when I'm at home, to me a batch uses 2lbs of sugar, where as for others it may be 1 or more depending on the recipe and how much they make at a time.

I can usually do a double batch in mine without any trouble. But I add the icing sugar in halves and I mix thoroughly after the first half. A tea towel over the machine cuts down the cloud. icon_smile.gif

I make Sugarshack's BC recipe in my 5qt, and it works great. It is a bit messy, but not a big deal.

Depending on which bowl I use...
the bowl that comes with the mixer - 16C (approx)
or the replacement bowl (with handle) - 18C (approx)
