For my sons wedding cake they want a mosaic monogram on each side of the middle layer. My problem is since it is mosaic and the letter is in pieces how do I do that. What type of backing, etc? Attached is what they want it to look like.

Well, do you want to drive yourself crazy with placing each piece individually on the cake. I think that would give you the best result but man would that be tedious!

If possible, I would cut out the individual pieces and "paste" them on a gumpaste or fondant plaque and then put that on the cake. You could do that a few days in advance so you aren't so stressed at the last minute. **Always make extras in case of breakage.

Is the cake fondant covered or BC? If BC, before the icing crusts you can put it in the icing without any problem. If fondant, paint a little water on the back of the plaque and place on the fondant.

Gum paste gluing rule - You can glue dry to wet, wet to wet but never dry to dry.
