I have used a steamer or edible lacquer spray or you can smoothe a little shortening over it.

if you use a steamer will it stay shiny? does it make the fondant gummy? im afraid lint and dirt will stick to it.

To make fondant shiny you can either use lacquer spray, americolor bright white kneaded into the fondant, airbrush bright white onto fondant, or steam the fondant you have many options!
