Where can I get food safe wires to put in the top of cake for decoration?? I don't really have time to order it online since I need/would like it for this weekend. Can you get it at Michaels or AC Moore?? If so, I've never seen it in the cake section so is it somwhere else in the store??

You could get that floral wire, but you need to cover it with floral tape or insert it in a straw before placing it in your cake. Michael's should have what you need.

dip the end of the wire into melted chocolate.......then there are no worries, the part dipped in chocolate goes in the cake!

There is a great thread on this at the top of the how to page. Lots of ideas for using straws, chocolate, etc.
I am doing this for the first time this weekend too.
Good luck!

even dipped in chocolate you run the risk of the lead leaching from the wire into the cake.

if it's dangerous, how come on most all of the cakes from The Pink Cake box there are wires sticking out??? I've been looking at a lot of her cakes, and it looks like the wires are stuck directly into the cake....

I'm sure there are varieties of wire without lead. Wire used in jewellery does not contain lead si it's avail somewhere, it's just that the typical floral wire does contain lead and isn't meant for use in food.

I buy stainless steel wires at the craft store....they're just not "food grade stainless steel" so I dip in choc. just to be extra safe. The wire states on the package label "does not contain lead"
