Does anyone know how to use royal icing to mold shapes. I was thinking of pouring royal icing into the regular Wilton candy molds and letting them dry. But do I need to coat the molds with something so that they unmold well?
I've never heard of doing that but I'd be interested to know if it works.
No, it doesn't work. The royal needs air circulating all around it in order to dry properly. It just makes a mess.

Better off to mold fondant, gum paste, or a 50/50 mix of the 2.
