What kind of fondant are you using? When mine cracks or is a little dry, I work a little bit of shortening into it and that fixes the problem - but I use Satin Ice. It will vary depending on what type you're using.

What kind of fondant are you using? I use Michelle Fosters and find if it's a bit dry, kneading in glycerin really helps, just put a bit of glcerin on the palm of your hand and work it in.

I used to buy fondant (Wilton) which you roll out with powdered sugar on board. i started making my own (the MMF recipe here) and found it was sticky and the powdered sugar wasn't helping. In desperation, I picked up my can of PAM and sprayed the board and voila` it was pliable and easy to used and didn't crack after an hour or two. I even gave the whole cake a light spray for a sheen and to work it before travelling and presentation.
