The other day I thought popped into my head to make a cake that looks like a giant doughnut . I think it would be a really fun cake, but I have a couple logistics questions.
How do I cover a donut shaped cake in fondant?
Is it possible to achieve the coloring on the actual donut (not the frosting) below without an airbrush?
Will carving the donut be really difficult? How do I go about doing it?

Thanks!
LL

Here are some doughnut cakes from the galleries:

Seems they used the Williams Sonoma giant doughnut cake pan for some and bundt pans (which are carved) for others:

Looks like it could also double as a bagel (cake) pan.
