Well I am sitting here waiting on the inspector from the Dept. Of Ag to arrive. He is just coming to look at the space I am wanting to turn into a kitchen for Cake Decorating. I know i shouldn't be nervous since he's just coming to give his knowledge but I am. Anyways wish me luck!

Thanks Guys...CakeMommy I am in Augusta Ga.

Well the inspector was great. He said the room will be perfect. Now the work begins. I need to re-sheet rock then I need to buy a sink, hand washing sink, mop sink, fridge and oven. I am so excited I can't see straight!

Did he leave you a copy of the '09 food code? You really should get yourself one, before you spend $$$, and have to spend it to redo what you did. Can you operate a business out of your house according to zoning laws?

Mike~ He left me some Basic Requirement info but not the 09 food code. Where could I get a copy of that? As far as the zoning I have spoken with them before and I think it's going to be fine but I am going to the local office Monday to speak with someone. Jen thank you so much.

Good Luck getting started. I'm in Cobb county, and I'm just starting the process of getting licensed, so I'll be in the same boat in a couple of months or so.

You might also check online for the food code. In Louisiana is available online.

Rachie, we lived in Augusta for about 9 months while my husband was at school in Fort Gordon. We rented a house in Barnett's Crossing which was sometimes hard to get out of at "rush hour" & I loved the school my son went to "Open Door". I took my Wilton classes there with Nancy at Michael's. Are you building a separate building or using your garage or did they change the law? I am excited for you.

terrig~ I have not heard of Open Door but I will check it out as we are searching for a good school to sent our son to. My house was built in 53 and then had an addition added in the 80's. We have gutted the old kitchen and will be redoing it for my cake kitchen. SO EXCITED!!!!! Oh and by the way we got around 5 inches of snow yesterday and are still playing in it. Shocking huh?

I will check online and with the local office about the 09 food code.

Noah~ Good luck...I know I have so many questions to find answers to. (Insurance, best appliances, how to set up my business for tax purposes.)

Rachie, 5 inches! OMG, I know it's probably terrible driving. I remember the day we moved (Christmas Eve of 07 & it was raining cats & dogs & I thought that was terrible). Miss Patty was the woman we always worked with at Open Door. It is actually at the Temple where they had the plane crash a in 07 but they just rent space from there. They really were great with my son & he really enjoyed his time there. I am excited to hear about your new kitchen & your business. Your cakes are beautiful! I know Masters season will be coming soon, do you all leave town?

there was lots of ice on the road but luckily we didn't have any plans and DH was off work so we played all day. It was great! I remember that plane crash. I will check into that for sure! Thank you for the cake compliment...I still have lots to learn. icon_smile.gif
