Cracking Fondant??

Everytime I make a fondant cake, the edges of the cake crack....What is wrong? I thought that it was because of the excess fondant weighning it down but the last time I made sure there was hardly any excess.... What is wrong and what can I do??? I am a novice so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My guess is that you make the fondant too thin...
