I am new here, and am not a professional cake baker or decorator by any means but my kids always like me to bake their cakes homemade. My son wants a birthday cake with a forest full of deer.

Any suggestions on this, what do I use for molding a deer. I tried using fondant (the ready made and colored kind) but maybe I am to slow it seemed to dry out and crack and just couldn't figure out the process, any suggestions would be great.
