I am new to cake decoration and so far have only used the madeira cake since it's sturdy and was the one recommended in the books I read. I have found it to be very dry, however. Can you recommend other recipes for cakes to be used in building elaborate, decorated cakes?

Hi there, you can brush some sugar syrup on to your layers, so it makes the cake more moist. If not you can try victoria sponge recipe.
