Can I use meringue powder instead of egg whites to make SMBC? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

yes on the back of the wilton brand it will tell you how much powder to use per egg white. But its way cheaper to do egg whites.

You can use pasteurized egg whites as well, found in the egg case.
Some brands work better than others, and I always use cream of tartar with them.
The Egg Beaters brand normally does not work, but some more generic or store brands work quite well.
Thanks, I'm always running out of eggs before getting to the icing. That's why I usually just make regular buttercream . I am going to buy a carton of the pasturized egg whites to keep on hand because I do prefer SMBC.
