So all my practice cakes are really hurting my waistline. I need to order some styrofoam dummies to practice new techniques on.

I did a Google search and it looks like guildcraftfurniture.com has really good prices. Has anyone ever ordered from them?

Where do you get yours?

From guildcraft, I think I would order:

rounds- 4-6-8-10-12-14 = $15.34
squares- 6-9-12-15 = $11.00
hexagons - 12-6 = $4.85
petals- 12-6= $4.85

The site says that shipping is actual UPS ground + $5 per box.

Does this sound like a good deal?

(I don't need many hexagons and petals as I can see myself using these in mixed shape cakes, probably with rounds for the other tiers)

If there is a better place to order from, please let me know!

I don't remember how the prices compare to what you have listed, but I've ordered from www.t a ylo r fo am.com before. www.**********.com is another one.

Leave out the spaces of course.

That's where I order all of mine from too, although hopefully soon my hubby will be making mine. Until then, Taylor Foam it is. And they're quick with shipping too.

I get mine from www.**********.com without spaces. They are actually cheaper then Taylor foam. A rounded 6" from D.F. is $2.65 and a rounded 6" from T.F. is $3.25. The shipping is not expensive either.

I recently ordered some from guildcraftfurniture.com---and I suspect that they'll get all of my future business.

Besides the reasonable pricing, the packing was the best I've ever seen--each dummy was cradled in a piece or pieces of upholstery foam. No rubbing of edges or rattling around in the box. The box was double walled, so it held up well during shipping and is re-useable.

I found their customer service to be excellent, too.

I just bought 2-10", 4-8". and 4-6", all 4" high and with shipping I only paid $27.73 (10 dummies + shipping!)

Shipping was only $4.95, they base it on how much you spend rather than weight, size, etc.
I got the order in 3 days!
www.plasteelcorp.com
I will definately be doing business with them again!

I make mine. I bought a styrofoam cutter at the hardware store and just make my own.

I like the idea of the rounded edges.... except that my cake pans don't have rounded edges. So I probably need to practice on something that will be the shape of my actual cakes.

Just an FYI: I just received my second order from dal las fo am and wasn't too happy. The box arrived in good shape, but it was like they were packed in there too tight. Two or three of them had messed up spots from where they were smooshed against each other. Luckily I'm going to be carving them, so the damaged spots won't show. I have to place another order for ones that won't be carved and I'm hesitant about ordering from them again even though they seem to be the cheapest for me.

I read in another thread that someone else had this issue with them, but a lot of people love them. I guess you just never know. icon_smile.gif

I have ordered from www.shapeformations.com located in Lulu, Georgia.
I needed some non standard shapes and they were very good to work with.

Here is another site that specializes in cake dummies
www.guildcraftfurniture.com/cake_dummies.html

I have not ordered from the second one and wonder if anyone else has?
