I want to create a minnie mouse cake with two tiers ( 8" and 6") with ears on top. I have never done much cake baking except for simple things so I need a lot of help. Thanks.

Hi, is it something like this you want to do?

If so, bake the cakes, torte and fill. The top tier (6") should be on a board same size as the cake. Cover the cakes with fondant or buttercream and you need to dowel the bottom tier. I normaly use wooden dowels but you can choose whether to use them or or the SPS system ( lot of decorators recommend this). Then stack the cake.

For the Minnie mouse ears, I would use gumpaste and make them at least a week in advance so they have lot of time to dry completely. When you place them on the cake, if the cake is covered in fondant, use some royal icing to glue them to the cake.

HTH.
