I crumb coated, then iced and smoothed. I feel like some areas are a bit thin. Has anyone ever added a second layer of icing at this point?
Merry Christmas! Working on two cakes today for my daughters! One just graduated from college, and the other turns 21 tomorrow! Fun cakes, not much stress, but still want them perfect!
Oh heck yeah! Do it all the time! Especially when doing a red velvet cake. It's really cool how super smooth that 3rd coat of icing is. The 3rd layer can even be a bit thinner icing ... goes on faster and smoother. Best when doing it after the icing has crusted well.
