i'm looking for a sugar cookie recipe to make with my daughter that will taste good even without icing as we are not going to ice them.
any recommendations?

I like Penny's recipe... it's from Texas Monthly and I use it all the time. It tastes great and isn't too hard or soft. We eat them nekkid all the time. (I prefer them that way or with some sanding sugar on them)

There are tons of sugar cookie recipes online. LOok for one that has puffy cookies with colored sugar granules on them instead of icing. (commonly called Gramma's Sugar Cookies or Amish SUgar Cookies).
