I am a novice at cake decorating but I want to try to make this cake. How difficult do you think it would be for a novice?

Any tips?

I made a sushi cake before. It's not difficult. I used coconut for the rice, ground up a bit in the blender. To get the veggies shiny, I painted them with a mix of icing color and vodka. I shaped the bowl on a small glass bowl and let it dry totally then filled it with green buttercream. I used real chopsticks instead of making them, though.

One of my first cakes was a sushi cake. It was definitely time consuming, but I wouldn't say that it was hard. In the Asian section of the galleries, I found many pics of sushi cakes that I took ideas from and sort of made a composite to fit my needs. I thought it came out very nicely, and it went over very well.

Good luck to you!
