I have an order for a buttercream iced cake with a ribbon border - does anyone know how to keep the shortening from coming through the ribbon? Also, what is a good way of making the ribbons stick together where they meet. I've tried royal but doesn't look very neat - any suggestions?

little dabs of piping gel.....cover with a flower or decoration or tack in back...it the icing has crusted and you don't put freshing icing against the ribbon it usually doesn't seep thru....

you can also back the ribbon with waxed paper...

any other suggestions......
