I keep seeing these on baby shower cakes and would love to try this technique for a cake I have next week...how on earth are you all making the cute little fondant buttons? Is it a special cutter/marker that I should own?

Use a round cutter. Then use a round tip to imprint a circle in the center, and make holes with the round end of a paintbrush, a plastic yarn needle, a pointy veining tool, etc.
