Anyone who has made a beer bucket cake can you please tell me if you covered the cake with fondant or if you just put the gum paste panels on butter cream.
I have someone who wants choc. cake with choc. icing.
I'm not sure if they like fondant or not so I'm wondering if I can just put the gum paste on the butter cream.
I'm trying to make the cake this week, and need advise!

I've done it both ways. It would be a matter of choice. Covering the cake in fondant can be tricky if the bottom part is smaller than the bucket top. Using panels up the side can also be difficult since you are working at an angle and trying to be level so that the seams look like bucket lines.
