I'm liking the 5 petal roses. Easy, different sizes....

I'm thinking of purchasing the JEM easy rose cutters. Anyone have any good/bad things to say??

Any type you prefer over one another??

I'm currently looking at JEM easy rose cutter. They come in a slew of sizes and are labeled for how to assemble (nice for a newbie!)

Suggestions?? Where to purchase?

I have a couple of the Jem 5 petal rose cutters. I like them a lot. I had bought the Wilton quick rose cutter set before and it doesn't work well at all but the Jem ones do.

I've used the Wilton quick one as well. It works alright. But I'm definably wanting more in sizes and that step of cutting down the petals again...inevitably I'm cutting too much or not enough!

Thanks for the recommendation...I'm thinking it'll be worth it.

That was my problem with the Wilton cutter...by the time you cut all those little lines in it, it's not quick at all icon_biggrin.gif

The first time I used the Jem one I was practically jumping up and down with joy over not having to cut those little lines. It helps if you turn the cutter over while the flower is still in it and then run your finger over the edges, to make them smooth.

I have the 110 mm and the 80 mm cutters. I will be buying a few more as my budget allows icon_razz.gif

Here's the difference between them and the Wilton cutter, at least for me:

With Wilton cutter:

With Jem 110 mm cutter:

With Jem 80 mm and 110 mm cutter (bigger one used for outer petals):

I use the 80 mm all the time. If you look in my pix at Megan's wedding cake, all the white roses were done with that cutter.

I've really struggled with the 5 petal cutter. I do them on wire and as I run the petals up the wire, the hole gets big and sorta breaks down the center. I feel all thumbs when I'm doing them

I have most success with Enda tutorial using the wilton round cutter

This is what you need for the 5 petal cutters, a platform made with a styrofoam plate with a hole in the center. Use it like a table to rest the petals on while you're attaching them.

There's a really good tutorial on using the 5 petal cutters too http://www.flickr.com/photos/franjmc/2927935625/ you have to scroll down and read through the comments to find it

I have been trying to find a cutter to make roses larger than my Wilton cutter makes for ages. Thank you so much for all the info here.

I have the pink cutters too but I prefer the off-shite ones where the petals kind of come to a point. I think they make more realistic roses.....can't figure out how I ended up with both but I always go to the white ones.

ok, Texas_Rose

I have my styrofoam platform with the wire going thru the hole but now have another question.

Do I rest the platform on something or do I just hold it with one hand while I'm arranging the petals

I am all thumbs remember... icon_redface.gif

Usually you hold the wire in one hand while you add the petals, right? Use that hand to rest your styrofoam platform on while you attach the petals with the other hand.

I use a foam pad to hold the petals while I attach them. It makes it a bit easier to work. Like in the photo.

That's how they did it in the tutorial that I watched...but I didn't have a foam pad that big or stiff, so I improvised icon_biggrin.gif

You can use the thick foam that comes in the Wilton products
