I'm about to make a cake with fondant shapes on the sides and a 50/50 fondant gumpaste name standing upright on top of it. what do I use to make them stick? Do I just wet a brush and brush the backs of the shapes? What about the name?

For the fondant shapes on the side I just use water and a brush if sticking it to a fondant covered cake - never had a problem. If you are sticking them to buttercream I use piping gel and a brush. For the name I would mix tylose powder in the fondant and let them dry firm then attach lollipop sticks to the back with some melted chocolate and stick them in the cake. HTH
