It is illegal to sell cakes from home in CA. I'm now wondering about figures? Although they are technically edible, I personally don't recommend eating them. Does this make them OK to sell, or would it still be illegal?

TIA!

I have seen people sell gumpaste items "for decoration only" and then it's not considered a food item. Why don't you call your local health department and find out what you can and can't do?

In my opinion it is legal.I do not consider gum paste decorations edible.
I think you can also sell dummy cakes, some people do it.

I'll be calling my local HD tomorrow to inquire about the figures. The cake dummies is a really good idea, but who would I sell the dummies to??

There are businesses that rent out the dummy cakes, to people who want a big showy cake but have a twinkie budget icon_biggrin.gif
