Does anyone know what kind of wire is used in the Duff-like cakes? It seems thicker than regular floral wire.

I'm not sure about Duff cakes, but I just bought some black wire from the jewelry department at Michaels to make some flying bats. It was pretty thick and sturdy, so you might check there for your needs.
