I had my first client who backed out of a cake..THE DAY BEFORE IT WAS DUE! (it was already started at this point of course).. and I've decided based on this experience that I need to come up with a contract for birthday/all occasion/specialty cakes. Any tips, samples..??? I'm not sure where to go with this.. I just don't know what to do so that this doesn't happen again! I just kinda do this on the side right now.. I don't have the funds to start a business quite yet.. so I'm not sure what to do.

Did you take a deposit? I dont use a contract for any of my cakes yet, but i do take a 50% deposit and tell the customer that it is not refundable. That way if they do cancel at least your not at a total loss.

I think someone posted a copy of their contrat yesterday, i will try to find the link.
