Hi everyone,

I must apologise for asking what to you all is probably a really stupid question, however I'm new to cake baking and am trying my best to teach myself icon_biggrin.gif
I've offered to make a cake for a friend, they would like a lemon sponge. Can I make my sponge as normal and add lemon zest to the mix? Would this be the best thing to use? Any answers would be greatly appreciated!!! thumbs_up.gif

Hi there, no question is stupid. icon_smile.gif Yes, you can add lemon zest to your cake batter and if you are adding any liquid, then you can replace it with lemon juice too. To make it more lemony, make your normal buttercream and add few tablespoons of lemon curd to it. You can add lemon curd until you get the right taste you want. icon_smile.gif

There is also lemon extract that you can use, too.
