My mom asked me to do a cake for our annual Filipino American organization's Christmas party.

At first I wanted to do a Philippine and US flag combo, but it looked very patriotic (red/white/blue for both flags) and less Christmas-y.

So I thought about the star lanterns (parol) we have at Christmas time... but I cannot seem to come up with an idea on how to use it besides creating a star shaped cake laying on its side.

I think I may also do a single 12" (or similar size) cake and 50 cupcakes instead of a 3tiered cake.

Any ideas? I know its early, but I have to plan this in advance because I know November/December months are hectic (my mom, our anniversary, DH and my bdays too)

TIA!

What about making a round cake (4" high) and surrounding it with the stars? And writing a traditional Filipino Xmas greeting on the top?

If you need the stars to be gold, make them from fondant first, dust with gold luster dust then attach to the cake.

It depends on how big you need the cake to be, thou.

No, it doesn't need to be gold...
