I have a cake to make for this saturday but I would like to start baking it today and maybe frosting it and through out the week work on it and in between put it back in the fridge. also its a square cake which I don't have anything to cover it while is in the fridge. But my question is would it be stale by Saturday or should i get something to store the cake while its in the fridge...

Yes, it will be stale by Saturday. If you want to bake now, then plan on freezing the cake. Wrap it well in plastic wrap and then in foil, and just put it in the freezer. When you're ready to frost it, thaw it completely first.

I agree with this. I say, bake your cakes now and put them in the freezer until you're ready to fill and ice.
