I got a request from a friend for her boyfriends mom's B-Day cake. She is very into numbers and meanings I guess and she is turning 49 on 9-9-09...although they don't need the cake until the 12th so I have some time. She requested a cake shaped like a nine...with the color combination of teal and purple. I am stumped on how to make this cake look pretty and adult like. I think of number cakes, especially only one number as children's cakes, and I think of buterflies, flowers, balloons, but I know this woman and she is very classy, she lived in Paris for a while...I just want her to like it. Any thoughts would be helpful...thanks so much.

Maybe you could decorate the long edge of the 9 with the Paris skyline, similar to this:

fficial%26um%3D1" target="_blank" class="postlink">http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://static-p3.fotolia.com/jpg/00/02/15/98/400_F_2159829_ALixpqj6LqDk70EFGHIJpDDk7U1Fld.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.fotolia.com/id/2159829&usg=__3bVfTTZR36MusRr1tzR8VplmD6M=&h=283&w=400&sz=33&hl=en&start=19&um=1&tbnid=Kz_CIwsMo8VA1M:&tbnh=88&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dparis%2Bskyline%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-USicon_surprised.giffficial%26um%3D1

Then, for the background color/sky you could fade the teal into the purple, mimicking a dusky sky.

I like that idea, thanks so much, I was stuck in kiddie mode and I couldn't get out.

Thanks again,

Sarah
